What inspired the brand name?
I created the term “Iconix” to be some form of self-expression of ones greatness. A way you can resonate throughout our daily lives. The collective part comes from different designers sharing one common goal, creating creative apparel.
At what moment did you realize you wanted to start a brand?
One day in the shower, I wanted to create something. I always loved clothes even though I haven’t really had knowledge about type of garment, brands, etc out there. From there I thought what kind of idea, culture, movement I wanted to bring into the table. I wanted to create something that a person can express themselves with confidence. Going through my everyday life, I see a lot of negativity people hold within themselves. In a sense, made me too relate to that lack of confidence I had before. I personality believe everyone has some type of uniqueness within themselves. I mean there are over seven billions of people in this planet and only one of you. You are the 1%. You have some type of creativity, character, unique complexity that no one in this planet have, so fucking express it, cherish it, live with it.
What helps you get over creative blocks?
Music and standing in the shower.
What is the biggest mistake you have made?
One of the biggest mistake is not doing any research on marketing. It backfired and end up costing time and money.
What is the biggest success you have had?
Every sale we make I personally count as a big success. It is so mind blowing to see someone half-way around the world buying something I created and being a part of Iconix movement.
A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION PEOPLE MAY FIND WEIRD?
I guess when people doubt me I become more inspired to do things haha.
Favorite color to use?
I love using black and white color schemes.
ARE THERE ANY RETAIL SHOPS YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU BRAND IN?
I haven’t really thought about being into retail shops yet. However, I would love to support independent retailers out there.
ANOTHER BRAND THAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
I would say more of the old school popular brands like The Hundreds and Stussy. But now I’m more inspired by underground brands I see out there are like Steadyhands, Grind x Grow X Prosper, Resurgence, and a lot more brands in Reddit’s streetwearstarup.
Where do you see yourself and the brand in 1 year and 5 years?
Once we gain more capital we see ourselves expanding into more creative selections like shoes, jackets, etc.
