What inspired the brand name?
It's the obsolete spelling of the word Covenaunt which, most likely derived from Norman influences. The Norman Conquest is on of my favorite historical events.
At what moment did you realize you wanted to start a brand?
I was watching a documentary on Louis XIV of France and how he used fashion as a method of dominating his vassals. In a way I realized that art has power that goes beyond visual appearance.
What helps you get over creative blocks?
Music, art, and time. I let outside influences guide me. I never attempt to force a design or, treat Covenaunt as anything beyond a creative passion project.
What is the biggest mistake you have made?
I'm aware that at times I can be overly ambitious and a bit too forward thinking. I rushed into Covenaunt without properly planning or, marketing the project and it cost me time and money.
What is the biggest success you have had?
My most recent drop, the herald, did fairly successful though I would have to say the highlight of Covenaunt so far was when a old classmate of mine sent me a snapchat stating that he just saw a random guy walking down the street in my shirt. It was exciting to know that others could appreciate something I designed.
A SOURCE OF INSPIRATION PEOPLE MAY FIND WEIRD?
I'm predominately inspired by fantastical settings as well as medieval mediums of dress. When I tell someone I want to design capes and mantles many don't seem to take me serious.
Favorite color to use?
Though technically a shade, I feel that black translates multiple feels depending on usage which, makes it the most versatile in my opinion.
ARE THERE ANY RETAIL SHOPS YOU WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOU BRAND IN?
I'd like to go brick and mortar someday but, I feel as though no third-party shop could properly emulate the feelings I would want my patron to experience while shopping with Covenaunt.
ANOTHER BRAND THAT INSPIRES YOU AND WHY?
That's a hard choice. There are a lot of brands that I'm huge fan especially in the startup scene (VVIDessnce, Resurgence, EGO2k) however, If I had to choose one brand I'd say that Prada has had the most impact on me creatively.
Where do you see yourself and the brand in 1 year and 5 years?
In a year, I see myself expanding Covenaunt to produce somewhat of a reliable income that will allow me to invest into more elaborate projects. In five years, I hope to see become somewhat of a creative firm that has its own fan base centered around a unique aesthetic and mythos.
